Hey, wait! Please Don’t tell me that you didn’t know about the Pushkar fair. How can you do this to yourself? Okay Okay, don’t panic we will tell you about this. Ammh Pushkar fair is mostly known as Pushkar camel fair or Pushkar Mela. It is one of the most colourful and vibrant exhibitions held in Rajasthan. It is a 15 days long event in which there is fair of camel and livestock organized during the month of November, and you will be amazed to notice the crowd it attracts from all over the world. Keeping aside the celebrations, the Pushkar fair has the religious significance too. In fact, over the years The fair was honoured by the Rajasthan Tourism industry.
Historical significance
For the first time when we got the chance to witness the fair, we were sitting under the tree with an old man, and out of curiosity, we end up asking him about the history of Pushkar fair. You know what he was so excited to narrate the history to us that he continuously shared everything about the event for more than 2 hours. Hey wait We are not going to take much time of your, we will cut short the summary for you. Actually, the residents of Rajasthan believes that around 330 years ago gods and goddesses used to visit Pushkar lee during Purnima(full moon night) to consecrate the lake. This is how the lake was considered sacred and people started worshipping it, in fact, the lake has become the destination of pilgrimage since then. People come here to take the holy bath and wash away their sins and to let the peace & purity resides in them. In fact, the place was also mentioned in one of the Hindu’s holy book Mahabarta.
When is it celebrated?
Haven’t we mentioned it earlier? Basically, Pushkar Mela or Pushkar Fair is celebrated in the month of November for 15 days with the belief of welcoming the gods and goddesses again. What all you can buy during this mela
Yes, the mela is widely famous for the showcase of camels and livestock, but you can also spend time going through various shops and sellers. Well, when we went there we spent most of the time buying handmade jewellery bags and dresses. Trust me the ethnic clothes will drive away your heart and there will be a point you will end up spending the maximum amount on the jewelry only. This is our personal experience, when we came back to our hometown our friends were like “Do you want to sell out of these?” But all of them were so pretty that we were not able to resist them.
